Welcome to a new series of posts for the Grisaia no Kajitsu anime. I’ve been watching it intently for 5 episodes now, and at many points, they are starting to compress the incredibly large VN (around 50+ hours). This is made for me to point out the compressions and express my thoughts on them. A VN is incredibly tough to go through especially if there is no True End, and the routes all include a romantic relationship with the protagonist.
Episode 1 starts up strong. It captures the interrogation scene perfectly, including the terribly sarcastic officer who sees Yuuji out. Takahiro Sakurai is definitely a great voice for Yuuji, as he captures his no-nonsense attitude. I knew he was going to be good, but this still surprised me.
Right out of the gate, the scene in which Chizuru picks up Yuuji is different. The conversation in her car is no different, until she freaks out about Yuuji potentially leveraging a pistol during the interrogation. We never get this in the VN, but I would think it’s meant to imply that Yuuji isn’t exactly a normal person. The way they did this in the VN was have an initial police stop scene in which he helps incapacitate a petty thief with some sick tasty moves.
The first to be officially introduced in the series was Sachi, consistent with the VN. This is also when you start seeing how accurate some of these poses are to their VN sprites, which was enough to entertain me even moreso than usual. Also, the show still points out the fact (and is also a minor plot revelation) that Sachi wanted to call Yuuji as “Yuu-kun.” Getting familiar awfully fast, as Yuuji said, is definitely putting up red flags.
Next up, 8bit reminds us that “hey bitches we were an R-18 visual novel” so we get some bucknaked shots of Yuuji. You definitely will never see this in the VN, but it’s also another way to see his scars, a.k.a. part of his past.
The next introduction involves Amane and Makina, and a trend begins: PANTSU SHOTS. There’s a LOT in this show. Once again, it feels like they’re using it to remind people of its original R-18 status.
Also, during Yuuji’s introduction, the clear surprise on Amane’s face is definitely another flag that you may not see right away in the visual novel.
Next up, my favorite false tsundere, Michiru. I reaaaaaaally love this scene. It captures how great Michiru is as a comic relief character. Just like certain character poses, the show captures Michiru’s silly facial expressions. More entertainment for me.
And to round out the introductions, we have Yumiko. Rather than a swift slap to the face like in the VN, we instantly see how she loves to brandish box cutters on people as she tries to attack Yuuji with it. I really would like to have seen the part where she tries to close the door on him, only to have Yuuji catch the damn thing and keep it open like a baller.
Finally as a close to the episode, we see (or at least hear) Amane’s breast blubber, as Yuuji would call it. Damn, they’re reaaaally trying to push the limits of this show.
Anywho, more surprised faces from Amane, and a bit of a teaser to everyone’s routes is shown, so I’ll just close this post with screenshots of them.
